Cork man dies in freak farm accident
A Cork cattle breeder, who died following a freak accident on his farm after the bicycle he was riding collided with a stationary tractor, is to be laid to rest this afternoon.
Peter Daly (54), the Island, Kiskeam, Co Cork died last Friday after he cycled into the rear wheels of the tractor on his farm. It is understood he died from neck and head injuries.
He is survived by his wife Maireád and their four children, Elisha, Eoghan, Jack and Eileen. His removal took place last night from Casey's Funeral Home to the Church of the Sacred Heart in Kiskeam.
Three escape fire in Wexford
A Wexford mother and her two young children were rescued from their burning home in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Martina Doyle, and her two children, Nathan (4) and Dylan (3) were in their home at The Grove, a private housing estate on the edge of Wexford town, when a fire engulfed one of the bedrooms at about 1am.
Martina and her two children were removed to Wexford General Hospital. All three are in a comfortable condition but still suffering from shock.
Teen threatened with syringe
Gardaí in Cork are attempting to track down a man who threatened to stab a teenager with a syringe during a robbery.
The mugger approached the 19-year-old on Western Road on the south side of the city in the early hours of last Thursday morning and told him that he would jab him with a syringe.
He stole the youth's cash and took his mobile phone before forcing him to walk almost two miles to an ATM machine on North Main Street. However, the teenager escaped before he reached the cash point. He was not injured in the incident. Anyone with information should contact gardaí in the Bridewell station on (021) 4270681.
Call for more gardaí in Salthill
A call has been made for more gardaí to be stationed at a seaside resort where a pensioner in her 80s was sexually assaulted. Gardaí at Salthill, Galway, are searching for a man who sexually assaulted the elderly woman after posing as a Good Samaritan who volunteered to carry her bags as she walked home from the shops.
After entering her house in Salthill, he attacked her and sexually assaulted her.

Search for missing woman continues
Gardaí in Bray are continuing their attempts to locate an elderly woman who went missing from a nursing home in Bray, Co Wicklow, on Christmas Day.
The search for Maura Reynolds (78), which had originally focused on the town itself and Bray Head but is now concentrating on the sea, has been hampered by poor weather conditions in recent days.
