Jailed for trying to drown woman
A homeless man who nearly drowned a woman in a bath after drinking all day with her has been jailed for three years by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
James Mansfield (53) with no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to assaulting Helen Cosgrove in an apartment on Watling Street, Dublin, on May 19th, 2006.
Judge Katherine Delahunt heard that Mansfield had a history of mental illness and had not intended to kill Ms Cosgrove. Nevertheless, she said, an innocent woman had faced death.
Drugs sentence adjourned
A heroin-addicted man, who had €141,890 worth of cocaine and assorted drug paraphernalia at his girlfriend's apartment, has had his sentence adjourned at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Hubert Buckley (40), Rossmore Avenue, Ballyfermot, told gardaí he was a "rent boy" when asked how he paid for his €100-a-day heroin habit.
Buckley pleaded guilty to possession of the drugs in February 2006.
Man told to pay into Garda fund
A Ballymun man who assaulted two gardaí who were assisting his brother has been ordered to pay €5,000 to the Garda benevolent fund before his sentence is finalised at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Niall Herbert (21), Termon Court, Poppintree, admitted assaulting two gardaí on December 10th, 2005, at College View apartments and to violent disorder at Ballymun Garda station.
Judge Michael White said he would impose a substantial suspended sentence on the next date.
Addict's home is repossessed
A drug addict who was sentenced on Monday to five years in prison for heroin dealing has lost his home.
Circuit Court president Mr Justice Matthew Deery granted Dublin City Council a warrant for possession of the former home of Joseph Campbell at Dolphin's Barn, Rialto, Dublin.
The judge granted the council possession despite having heard that Campbell's son had lived there for the past 14 months.
Stolen car crashed at Garda station
A teenage thief foiled his own car theft getaway when he crashed right outside a Garda station, a court heard yesterday. The 17-year-old boy pleaded guilty at the Dublin Children's Court to stealing the car in November.
Garda Colin Fitzpatrick told the court that "the car was stolen in Coolock at about 10.30pm and then he crashed it in front of Coolock Garda station".
