Three killed in Carlow car crash named

Gardaí in Carlow yesterday named the three foreign nationals who died following a collision at Knocknagee on Monday morning.

They were Sergei Tsevan (27), Yeomanstown Stud, Naas and Anton Pavlov (22), Roseville, Naas, both of whom were from Ukraine.

The third victim, Jean E De Quatrebarbes (27), with an address at Derneel, Caragh, was a French national.

Verdict pending in murder trial

The jury at the trial of a South African man accused of murdering his Irish-born wife will resume their deliberations later today after they failed to reach a verdict. Anton Mulder (44) Maelduin, Dunshaughlin, Co Meath, pleaded not guilty to the murder, but guilty to the manslaughter of his wife Colleen Suzanne Mulder. She was found dead in their house on December 17th, 2004.

At the Central Criminal Court yesterday the jury ceased their deliberations shortly after 7pm after they told the court they had not yet decided on a verdict.

Armed gardaí end halting site fights

Armed gardaí responded to reports of a major public order incident involving up to 50 people at a halting site in Waterford yesterday afternoon.

One man received treatment at Waterford Regional Hospital for hand injuries following a disturbance at the Kilbarry halting site in the city after the alarm was raised at approximately 3.30pm yesterday. Another man was arrested in connection with public order offences.

Two families, understood to be members of the Travelling community, had been engaged in bare-knuckle boxing. Garda Supt Dave Sheehan confirmed that reports of a shooting were false.

Wexford stabbing victim dies

A 36-year-old Co Wexford man died in London yesterday following a stabbing incident on Monday night. Kevin Danagher, a native of Ballycogley, in Wexford, was working in London at the time of the incident.
