Baby girl dies after attack by Rottweilers
LONDON - A five-month- old baby girl died after being attacked by two Rottweiler dogs in the Midlands city of Leicester, police said.
Police and ambulance staff were called to a pub in the New Parks area of the city on Saturday afternoon,
before the baby was brought to Leicester Royal Infirmary, where she later died from her injuries.
The BBC reported the baby girl had been dragged on to the roof of the pub, which was run by her parents. Police said they had taken away the two Rottweilers from the scene and have launched an inquiry into the baby's death. - (Reuters)
Opposition reject Gambia poll result
BANJUL - Gambia's main opposition leader Oussainou Darboe yesterday rejected the result of the election which handed President Yahya Jammeh a third term in office, citing widespread voter intimidation.
President Jammeh, who first seized power in a 1994 coup, was declared the winner of Friday's poll with 67 per cent of the vote while Mr Darboe polled 27 per cent and the third candidate, Halifa Sallah, 6 per cent. "We reject the result of this election . . . because the process has not been credible," Mr Darboe said - (Reuters)
Haniyeh upbeat on government deal
GAZA - Prime minister Ismail Haniyeh said yesterday talks on a Palestinian unity government could still succeed, brushing aside President Mahmoud Abbas's comment that they had reached "point zero".
"We will resume the consultations over the formation of a national unity government and I believe we have gone a long way down the road," Mr Haniyeh said. "There is a real hope that it will succeed." - (Reuters)
