Man for court over Haddock shooting
A man is expected to appear in court in Belfast this morning charged with the attempted murder of top loyalist Mark Haddock.
Mr Haddock (37), who remains seriously ill, was shot six times in the Doagh Road area of Newtownabbey, Co Antrim, on Tuesday. The attack took place at Mossley Orange Hall after he got out of his car. Police said the charged man (36) was arrested during searches in Belfast on Saturday. A second man arrested on Friday in connection with the shooting was released without charge.
Fire at Cork building yard
Fire units from across Co Cork were fighting a huge fire at a large builder's yard on the northside of Cork city last night.
A huge pall of black smoke covered the city centre and was visible for miles. A number of explosions were also heard. The fire started in the early evening at the site of Cork Metal Works near Mayfield.
Public help sought in seal search
The help of the public has been urged in attempts to lure a seal back to the sea from the River Liffey.
"Mrs Morgan", a harbour seal released recently on Bull island, was spotted near Heuston Bridge yesterday the Irish Seal Sanctuary said. "Mrs Morgan is a very relaxed and easy-going seal so the public should not be overly concerned for her safety. However the Irish Seal Sanctuary does ask the public to report any sightings of her as we do hope to lure her back out to open water.
