Gardaí seek witnesses to stabbing
Gardaí are investigating a melee in Carrick-on-Suir, Co Tipperary, last night in which a 19-year-old man was stabbed in the chest.
The incident took place at 7pm on Pill Road. The man was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital where his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.
Gallery security guard suspended
A security guard at the National Gallery has been suspended following allegations that he was convicted of major fraud in the US.
It is alleged that the guard, who was hired by a private security firm over the past few weeks, was convicted in 2003 for his part in a major fraud against a DIY chain. He was recently deported back to Europe after his release from prison in the US.
Struck-off doctor applied to IMC
A doctor who served with the Irish Defence Forces in Liberia for a year before it emerged he had been struck off in South Africa applied to register with the Irish Medical Council, a council spokesman said yesterday.
The council wrote to Dr Wynne Lieberthal asking for documentation but he never replied. He was therefore never granted registration, the spokesman said.
The doctor, who served with the Defence Forces from late 2004 to late 2005, should have been registered before taking up the job.
Minister for Defence Willie O'Dea is awaiting a report on the case.
Man shot in face in Clonmel
A man in his 20s was shot in the face yesterday at Cooleens Close, Clonmel. He was taken to Cashel Hospital where he was treated and discharged. No one has been arrested.
