Bricklayers remain in prison
Three unemployed bricklayers remain in jail after failing to comply with a court order restraining them from picketing a south Dublin building site.
At the High Court yesterday, Mr Justice Frank Clarke adjourned the proceedings against the men for two weeks and said that, if they are still in prison at that point, arrangements should be made to have them in court. Collen Construction Ltd, owner of a site where 77 local authority houses are being built at Wyattville Road/ Laurel Avenue, Ballybrack, last week secured committal orders against the men after they refused to undertake not to picket the company's site.
Man withheld information
Gary Penkert (37), originally from Griffith's Place in Waterford, was last night found guilty at the Central Criminal Court of perverting the course of justice and withholding information from gardaí in relation to the murder of a man whose body was found in a Co Waterford wood.
The trial heard that the victim, Martin Nolan (34), from "An Halla", Newtown House, in Tramore, Co Waterford, had disappeared on November 10th, 1999. No one has been charged with his murder.
Teenager on killing charge
A 17-year-old was yesterday charged with the manslaughter of a man who died following an altercation outside his home in Leixlip, Co Kildare, last August.
The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested yesterday and brought before the Dublin Children's Court to be charged. Det Garda John Byrne told Judge Catherine Murphy that he arrested the west Dublin teenager and charged him with unlawfully killing Oliver Leacy Snr, at Celbridge Road, Leixlip, Co Kildare, on August 13th last.He was also charged with assault causing harm to a juvenile, at Celbridge Road, Leixlip on August 13th last year.
The boy was granted bail to appear in four weeks. Two other 17-year-olds were also charged in connection with the incident.
Journalist denies forgery
A Sunday Mirror journalist has denied at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court that she used forged prescriptions at various pharmacies.
Naomi McElroy (27) Grove Park Drive, Glasnevin, pleaded not guilty to five charges of forging the prescriptions and five charges of presenting them to the north Dublin pharmacies on July 29th, 2004.
