Seven years for killing teenage father

A Dublin man who stabbed a teenage father in the stomach with a carving knife was sentenced to seven years yesterday, with the final year suspended.

Mark Warner (23), Donomore Avenue, Tallaght, was convicted by a jury last November of the manslaughter but cleared of the murder of Jamie Keogh (17), from Millbrook Lawns, Tallaght.

The incident took place on Donomore Avenue early on July 30th, 2004, after a fight broke out between a number of people.

Couple raped and molested sisters

An east Belfast couple were yesterday convicted of raping and sexually molesting the woman's two teenage sisters.

The 30-year-old man was unanimously convicted in Belfast Crown Court of one charge of rape, three of indecent assault and one of gross indecency and convicted by a majority verdict of 11 to one on a further charge of rape.

The 27-year-old woman was unanimously convicted of procuring her two sisters for her boyfriend to rape and also of inciting one sister to commit an act of gross indecency with her.

The sisters were aged 13 and 15 at the time of the offences.

Mr Justice Weir released the woman on bail but remanded the man in custody and adjourned passing sentence until next month.

He ordered the pair to sign the sex offenders' register.

Two men held after cocaine haul

Two men in their 30s were in custody last night at Clondalkin and Ballyfermot Garda stations following the seizure of a large quantity of cocaine at a house in Cherry Orchard in Dublin.

The men are detained under the Drug Trafficking Act and may be held for up to seven days.

Suspended term for selling heroin

A drug addict who "fixed-up" a Limerick man with heroin in under two minutes has been given a three-year suspended sentence by Judge Desmond Hogan at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Alan Plunkett (32), a father of two of James Connolly Park, Clondalkin, pleaded guilty to having 27.532g of heroin for sale or supply on March 6th, 2003.

Man cleared of rape, sex assault

A 55-year-old Donegal man has been cleared by a jury at the Central Criminal Court of raping and sexually assaulting a female neighbour over a six-year period.

The jury took almost five hours to find him not guilty on all 32 counts.

Mr Justice Paul Carney discharged the accused who denied five charges of rape and 27 of indecent and sexual assault on dates from 1986 to 1991, when the alleged victim was aged from eight to 11.

Bail for youth accused in attack

A teenager charged in connection with the alleged mugging of Dubliner Brian O'Callaghan, who ended up in a coma, has been released on bail pending directions from the DPP.

The 17-year-old was remanded in custody by the Dublin Children's Court last week following a Garda objection to bail.

He is charged with robbery of a mobile phone from Mr O'Callaghan at Saint Audoen's Park, Dublin 8, on April 17th last year.
