Crash victims' families travel to Croatia
Family members of the Irish women killed and injured in a bus crash in Croatia on Friday have travelled to the region.
One woman from Trim, Co Meath, was among six people who died when a minibus crashed into a refrigeration truck near the village of Medaki in northwest Croatia.
A second Irish woman is believed to have suffered multiple fractures and internal injuries and is being treated at a hospital in Pula. She is understood to be in a critical condition.
The Department of Foreign Affairs is not expected to release the name of the deceased until today. The women, both in their 40s and living in Scotland, were on holiday and were on a daytrip from from Pula to Porec. Four of the six people who died have been identified, including the driver and two Belgian tourists. Some reports suggested four Irish people were involved, but Croatian authorities said the two remaining unidentified fatalities were not believed to be Irish.
Man charged with Dundalk murder
A man was heckled by members of the public after he appeared before a special sitting of Dundalk District Court on Saturday to face a charge of murdering a 43-year-old local man.
The body of Liam Maguire was found in his home in Woodview Terrace, Castletown Road, Dundalk in the early hours of Friday morning. He had suffered multiple injuries.
Gregory Conway (37), Father Murray Park, Dundalk, is charged with murdering Mr Maguire, also known as Liam Murphy, at his house on Thursday.
He was remanded in custody to Cloverhill District Court next Friday.
A man (36) arrested on suspicion of withholding information was released without charge.
Iraqi politicians in Dublin for talks
A delegation of eight newly-elected Iraqi parliamentarians will meet Taoiseach Bertie Ahern on Wednesday with a view to developing Irish-Iraqi diplomatic relations.
The group, which represents each of the major political parties, arrived last night and will take part in meetings with politicians in Dublin and Belfast. The visit has been organised by the International Republican Institute, a Washington- based organisation for the promotion of democracy, funded by the US government.
Gardaí appeal for witnesses to assault
Detectives investigating a serious assault in Dublin yesterday morning in which a man was critically injured are viewing CCTV footage.
The 27-year-old man from Lucan, Co Dublin, was assaulted on Lower O'Connell Street at about 3.15am. A man who was with two others assaulted him, inflicting serious head injuries. Last night he was in a critical condition at Beaumont hospital.
Gardaí have appealed for witnesses and are anxious to speak to a woman who called into Pearse Street Garda station. Anyone with information is asked to contact Store Street Garda station at 01-6668000.
Six injured in head-on collision
Six people were injured last night in a head-on collision at Ballytarsna, between Horse and Jockey and Cashel, Co Tipperary.
Two of the people involved were said to be seriously injured.
