Family held at gunpoint in Armagh home
A family was held at gunpoint on Saturday night during a robbery in Co Armagh. Three armed men went into the house in Middletown on the main Monaghan-Armagh road at about 8pm.
They tied up a woman and her young son and tried to restrain the woman's one- year-old child.
Reports say the gang demanded money but left a short time later with just a small amount of cash.
No one was injured, but the family were shaken. They think the robbers may have been looking for someone else in the area.
Police have appealed for information.
Two held after cocaine car find
Gardaí recovered 500 grams of cocaine worth an estimated €35,000 when they searched a car on the Cork Road, Abbeyleix, at the weekend. Two Tipperary men in their 20s were arrested and are detained at Portlaoise Garda station under section 2 of the Criminal Justice Drug Trafficking Act.
Youth (15) attacked in Portadown
A 15-year-old boy is in hospital following a serious assault in Co Armagh. Police in Portadown are appealing for information after the incident occurred in the Annagh Bridge area at about 8.30pm on Saturday night.
The PSNI said the teenager was in a serious condition in hospital with head and arm injuries. The youth was struck on the head by what is believed to have been a bottle. - (PA)
Gardaí hurt as patrol car rammed
Six gardaí were injured when the van in which they were travelling was rammed at speed in Mulhuddart, Co Dublin, over the weekend.
The gardaí, who are attached to Blanchardstown community policing unit, were on public order patrol in Blanchardstown when the collision occurred.
They were treated for minor injuries and released from Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown.
The 20-year-old male driver of the car remains in the hospital where his injuries are described as not life threatening.
Fisherman missing off Clare
A search is due to resume today in Co Clare for a fisherman feared drowned after he was washed into the sea yesterday afternoon.
The accident occurred shortly after 4.30pm at Tullygulleen near Cross in west Clare. A unit of the Doolin-based Irish Coastguard and a Coastguard helicopter searched for the missing man until dusk yesterday before the operation was called off.
Climber rescued from Bray Head
An experienced rock climber was rescued by the Coast Guard on Bray Head, Co Wicklow, yesterday morning after he developed a cramp in his leg. The man had been clinging to the rock face, unable to move, when the alert was raised.
He was taken uninjured off the cliff-face shortly after 11am by the Coast Guard Sikorsky helicopter.
Man for court over Rules streaking
A man caught streaking during the weekend's international rules game in Salthill, Galway, will appear in court on November 8th. The man, who ran across the pitch at the start of the third quarter of the game between Ireland and Australia, was held in Salthill Garda station overnight.
€15m shopping centre opens
A €15 million retail complex opened in Carrick- on-Suir this weekend, creating 120 jobs in south Tipperary. The 67,000 sq ft Dove Hill Centre was developed for the Blarney Group near Carrick-on-Suir.
Blarney Woollen Mills and Meadows & Byrne occupy two of the larger anchor units at the centre.
