Appeal against Mulhall murder verdict

A Dublin woman jailed for life for the murder and dismemberment of her mother's boyfriend has lodged an appeal against her conviction.

Charlotte Mulhall's sister, Linda Mulhall, who was jailed for manslaughter of the man, has already lodged an appeal against the severity of her 15-year sentence.

Charlotte Mulhall (24), a mother of one, was given a life sentence in the Central Criminal Court for the murder of Farah Swaleh Noor who had been involved with their mother, Kathleen. She has now lodged an appeal against conviction with the Court of Criminal Appeal.

Latvian held at Dublin airport

A Latvian man wanted in connection with two armed robberies in Longford has been arrested at Dublin airport as he was about to board a flight to his home country.

Intars Gailis (18), who has been living in Longford town, will appear in Castlepollard District Court today charged with having an imitation firearm.

Mr Gailis was arrested in Dublin airport on Tuesday evening as gardaí investigated the armed robberies in Longford on December 15th and 18th, where a masked man with an imitation firearm held up two shops.

He was brought before Tullamore District Court on Wednesday where Judge John Neilan remanded him in custody.

Taxi driver held after drugs seizure

A taxi driver was arrested after gardaí allegedly discovered a large quantity of cocaine in his car. The seizure was made when gardaí stopped the car on Coburg Street in Cork city centre.

The search occurred after lengthy surveillance of a house in the Fair Hill area by members of the Cork City Drugs Squad. On Wednesday night, gardaí moved in.

Gardaí searched the car and discovered cocaine with an estimated street value of €210,000. The driver, who was the sole occupant, was arrested at the scene.

He was taken to Mayfield Garda station where he was being questioned under section 2 of the Criminal Justice Drug Trafficking Act. He can be held for up to seven days.

Date set for IRA charge trial

The Special Criminal Court has fixed a date next month for the trial of a Co Cork chef arrested last year as part of a Garda investigation into IRA money laundering.

Don Bullman (31), Fernwood Crescent, Leghanamore, Wilton, Co Cork, was charged in February last year with IRA membership.

Mr Bullman's counsel, Conor Devally SC, applied yesterday to fix January 23rd as the date for his trial. Prosecuting counsel George Birmingham SC said that date was acceptable. Mr Bullman was remanded on continuing bail to January 23rd.

Girl remanded in burglary case

A teenage girl, who is suspected of committing a string of burglaries against elderly people across the country, has been remanded on bail pending directions from the DPP.

In one of these incidents she is suspected of stealing €10,000. The 16-year-old Tallaght girl was remanded on bail by the Dublin Children's Court yesterday.
