JonBenet suspect to go to Colorado
LOS ANGELES - A Los Angeles judge has ordered schoolteacher John Mark Karr to be sent to Colorado to face charges that he murdered, kidnapped and sexually assaulted six-year- old beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey.
Mr Karr (41), who was arrested in Thailand last week, waived his right to fight extradition from California, clearing the way for him to be sent to Boulder, Colorado, where JonBenet was found dead on December 26th, 1996.
The Los Angeles court was told that Mr Karr was wanted in Colorado on five counts, including murder, sexual assault and kidnapping. - (Reuters)
Two held over Moscow bomb
MOSCOW - A bomb at a Moscow market that killed 10 people including migrant workers was a race-hate crime, according to the city's chief prosecutor.
Police have detained two suspects in Monday's bombing and they have been charged with racially motivated murder, said Moscow chief prosecutor Yuri Syomin. - (Reuters)
Israeli tourists die in Egypt crash
CAIRO - Eleven Israeli Arab tourists have been killed and 30 others injured when their bus overturned in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, the latest in a string of Egyptian transport accidents. Officials said yesterday the tourists died after the bus flipped on a sharp curve in the road near the holiday resort town of Nuweiba. - (Reuters)
Pacific survivors drug inquiries
MEXICO CITY - Three Mexican fishermen who survived nine months adrift in a small boat in the Pacific Ocean are to be investigated for possible links to drug trafficking.
The three, who said they left Mexico's Pacific coast fishing village of San Blas last November, were rescued two weeks ago more than 8,000km (5,000 miles) away near the Marshall Islands in the south Pacific. - (Reuters)
Italy to tackle illegal trafficking
ROME - Italy will set up two task forces to combat traffic in illegal immigrants similar to units that investigate the Mafia and terrorism, the government has said, after about 20 North Africans drowned at the weekend.
Interior Minister Giuliano Amato announced the two units after meeting the top anti-Mafia prosecutor and police chiefs to discuss weekend incidents in which two boats from North Africa trying to enter Italy illegally overturned in the Mediterranean. - (Reuters)
Five beheaded on witchcraft fears
GUWAHATI - A group of villagers beheaded five people including a man, his wife and teenage daughter in India's remote northeast region, accusing them of practising witchcraft.
Police said that nearly a dozen people had been killed in the area in the past week by villagers who accused the victims of practising witchcraft after many people fell ill due to an undiagnosed disease. - (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES - Bob Dylan says the quality of modern recordings is "atrocious" and even the songs on his new album sounded much better in the studio than on disc. World's oldest man reaches 115
PUERTO RICO - The world's oldest man celebrated his 115th birthday yesterday.
Emiliano Mercado del Toro, who was a six-year-old boy when the US seized Puerto Rico from Spain in 1898, attributed his longevity to a healthy diet and avoiding alcohol. Mr del Toro gave up cigarettes aged 90. - (AP)
