Identity of skeleton still a mystery
Tests on the human skeletal remains found on the shoreline of the River Slaney, Co Wexford, earlier this week show the body is not that of missing local woman Fiona Sinnott.
Gardaí said results of initial tests indicated that the remains were those of "a female in her late 20s to early 30s measuring four feet ten inches in height". Supt John Roche said gardaí concluded the remains were not those of Ms Sinnott.
The bones were found lodged in silt on Kaat's strand, one kilometre north of Wexford bridge last Monday. Ms Sinnott, a 19-year-old mother of one, disappeared nine years ago.
Man to appear on charges
A 26 year old man will appear before a special sitting of Ennis District Court, Co Clare this morning charged in connection with the death of Charlie Mc Donagh at Bridgecourt, Roslevan, Ennis, last Sunday.
Teenager dies after car crash
A 17-year-old injured in a car crash in Co Meath on Thursday evening has died. He was a front-seat passenger in a car that was involved in a two-car collision at Castle Street, Ashbourne, at about 7.25pm. Gardaí at Ashbourne are investigating the incident.
Quarry inquiry after man killed
Health and Safety Authority inspectors were yesterday examining a Kilkenny quarry where a man was killed.
The victim, a local in his 40s, was working at Bennettsbridge limestone facility at about 8.30am when he became trapped in sand or rock dust at the site.
He was taken to St Luke's Hospital in the city but was pronounced dead a short time later.The man is the second worker to be killed while working at Bennettsbridge in the space of a year. A man in his 50s died at the site in March 2006.
Vehicle used as ram in bank raid
Gardaí were last night investigating an attempted robbery at a bank in south Dublin during which a vehicle was rammed into the front doors of the building.
Three men were involved in the raid, which took place shortly after 5pm at the Bank of Ireland branch in Rathfarnham shopping Centre.
Two men, one of whom appeared to be armed, entered the bank and threatened staff, but no money was taken. The raiders escaped on two motorcycles, which were later found abandoned.
Man died after severe beating
A Garda murder inquiry is continuing into the death of a 21-year-old man who was discovered severely beaten in Dublin, an inquest heard yesterday.
Eddie McCabe, a father-of-one from Rafters Lane, Drimnagh, died in St James's Hospital on December 8th last - a week after he was found badly beaten in a lane off Tyrconnell Rd, Inchicore.
A postmortem found he died from a penetrating injury to the head.
Insp Gabriel O'Gara was granted an adjournment of the inquest until July 13th.
