Murder trial hears legal arguments
The trial of a man accused of murdering a Chinese student in Dublin in 2005 has continued in legal argument.
Derek Wade (27), Church Avenue South, Rialto, Dublin denies murdering Zhi Song on June 29th, 2005.
The family of the murdered man and a number of witnesses have travelled from China for the trial which will continue before Mr Justice Barry White and a jury tomorrow.
Man faces trial for girlfriend's murder
A Galway city man has been sent for trial to the Central Criminal Court charged with the murder of his girlfriend last June.
Patrick Hogan (26), Fr Griffin Avenue, Galway, is charged with the murder of Cork woman Karen Guinee (23), at his address between June 10th and June 12th.
Murder trial to be held in Galway
The first murder trial to be held in Galway since the foundation of the State is to get under way at Galway Courthouse next Tuesday.
Kieran Lynch (40), Askeaton, Co Limerick, is charged with the assault and murder of his partner Catherine McEnery (35), Feenagh, Co Limerick, at Craughwell in July 2005.
Wexford woman granted bail
The Wexford woman charged with her mother's manslaughter has been remanded on continuing bail at Enniscorthy District Court. Eleanor Joel (32) and Jonathan Costen (34) are charged with reckless endangerment and the manslaughter of Evelyn Joel (59) who died at Wexford General Hospital on January 7th, 2006.
They will appear again at Enniscorthy District Court on March 28th.
Pair charged with insurance fraud
A doctor and his wife who deny allegations of defrauding two insurance companies, through making a bogus claim that the woman had surgery for breast cancer, are to go on trial next year.
Emad and Gehan Massoud, Brownstown, Ratoath, Co Meath, face a charge of uttering a cheque in March 2002 for €685,658 from Scottish Provident Ireland by falsely claiming that Ms Massoud (43) had surgery for breast cancer and of conspiring to defraud Life Assurance Company (now Bank of Ireland Life) of €45,338 between November 2001 and February 2002.
Row over Blarney photograph rights
A High Court dispute over the right to take photographs of people kissing the Blarney Stone has been adjourned for two weeks.
The proceedings have been brought by the Quaid Gallery Ltd against Charles Colthurst, owner of Blarney Castle. The company says it has taken photos of people kissing the stone since 1990 and it is seeking to prevent termination of its lease of a photographic kiosk.
