Man dies on fishing boat in Wexford

A man died last night in an accident on a fishing boat in Co Wexford. The incident happened at about 8pm on a trawler that was moored at Kilmore Quay.

It is understood that the man was electrocuted on board the boat. The crew of the Kilmore Quay Lifeboat attended the scene to assist in advance of the arrival of an ambulance but were unable to revive the man.

Funeral of man killed in Hawaii

Hundreds of people attended the funeral in Co Mayo yesterday of a father of two killed in a helicopter crash in Hawaii last month.

Mourners at the burial of 45-year-old John O'Donnell from Porturlin, Co Mayo, in Pollathomas Cemetery included his wife, Bernie, who was seriously injured in the accident.

The O'Donnells were on a tourist helicopter which crashed at Princeville Airport on a trip to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.

The pilot and two other passengers were killed.

Fr Sean Noone was the main celebrant of a funeral Mass at the Star of the Sea Church in Cornboy.

Mr O'Donnell's wife and two children, son David and daughter Lorraine, accompanied the remains home to Ireland from the United States.

The family are based at Rockaway in New York and are well known in Irish-American circles on the east coast.

Lost child back with mother

Gardaí launched a search for the parents of a small child found wandering around Cork's city centre yesterday afternoon.

It was thought the child was from either the Chinese or Mongolian community. Both have large numbers of people living in Cork city.

The child was taken to a Garda station where it was cared for pending the arrival of Health Service Executive social workers.

In the evening the child was transferred to the care of a foster family.

Gardaí contacted members of the Chinese and Mongolian communities and later said the child had been reunited with its mother.

Bookies slash odds on Kenny

The odds on Enda Kenny becoming the next taoiseach have been slashed in recent days. The Fine Gael leader dropped from 2/1 to 6/5 with Paddy Power bookmakers over the Easter weekend.
