Man convicted of raping teenage sister
A Kildare man who raped his sister has been remanded for sentence by Mr Justice Paul Carney at the Central Criminal Court.
The man (25) pleaded guilty to anal rape of his teenage sister between August 24th, 2003, and August 24th, 2007. He cannot be named for legal reasons.
Man denies murder of brother
The trial of a Cork man accused of fatally stabbing his brother during a row has been adjourned at the Central Criminal Court.
Patrick Lynch (26), Fairfield Square, Farranree, Cork city, denies murdering Peter Lynch jnr (27) at Fairfield Square on August 3rd, 2006.
The adjournment was necessary because a juror had suffered a bereavement.
Eight years for drugs offence
A former Dublin minor hurler who left his social security card in a holdall bag containing €44,000 worth of cannabis resin has been sentenced to eight years in prison.
Patrick Casey (19), Casino Park, Marino, who had no previous convictions, dumped the bag on a railway line. He pleaded guilty to possession of the drugs for sale or supply. The last two years of the sentence were suspended.
Man charged with attempted rape
A jury has been sworn in at the Central Criminal Court for the trial of a Donegal man charged with attempted rape.
The 25-year-old has pleaded not guilty to the attempted rape in a van of a woman he met outside a disco in a Co Donegal town on October 1st, 2006, and to sexually assaulting her.
No detention place for boy (15)
Detention centres for under-16s do not have any sentence places available, the Dublin Children's Court has been told.
A 15-year-old boy, awaiting sentence in relation to a spate of motor theft charges, is being held on remand in Oberstown Boys' Centre, in Dublin. The case was adjourned until Friday pending attempts to establish when a sentence bed would be available.
Man charged with attempted murder at pub
A man accused of attempting to murder a doorman at a Belfast pub has been remanded in custody after appearing yesterday in the city's magistrate's court.
Patrick McMahon (29), Clifton Crescent, has been charged with three offences arising from a gun attack at Fibber Magee's early last Friday. He has been charged with attempted murder, making threats to kill and possession of ammunition.
McMahon was remanded in custody and will appear in court again next month.
Convicted man admits garda threat
A convicted criminal who is serving six years for threatening the life of a member of a rival group, later shot dead in a gangland killing, has pleaded guilty to threatening a garda.
Michael Neeson said "two bang bangs in the head" to Sgt Cormac Brennan in the Four Courts just after the sergeant had given evidence in relation to an associate of Neeson.
Neeson (34), Coultry Drive, Ballymun, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to threatening to cause serious harm to Sgt Brennan on September 28th, 2005, intending him to believe the threat would be carried out.
He also admitted to threatening to cause serious harm to Raymond Pintos and his family and possessing a pump-action shotgun in suspicious circumstances in July and October 2005.
Judge Katherine Delahunt remanded Neeson in custody for sentence later.
Sentence for drugs courier adjourned
A Brazilian woman has had her sentence for transporting €206,500 worth of cocaine adjourned at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Sandra Sena (21), Sao Paolo, pleaded guilty to possession of the drugs at Dublin airport in March last year.
Judge Frank O'Donnell adjourned sentencing to allow him to consider reports on Sena's background.
Girl on bail pending sentence
A 13-year-old girl who stole from a 75-year-old woman has been remanded on continuing bail pending sentence by the Dublin Children's Court.
The Romanian girl, now aged 14, had been convicted of trespassing on the woman's home with intent to commit an offence, on April 13th last year.
Judge Catherine Murphy yesterday remanded the girl, who was accompanied to court by her mother, on bail until November to allow a further pre-sentence probation report on her to be furnished to the court.
