Man lured feud victimto his killers

The only man to be charged over the gangland killing of Michael Campbell McNamara in Limerick four years ago has pleaded guilty to luring him to his killers.

Andrew Nolan (27), Ashe Avenue, John Carew Park, Limerick, pleaded guilty at Limerick Circuit Court yesterday to intentionally or recklessly engaging in conduct which created a substantial risk of death or serious harm to Campbell McNamara between October 19th and October 20th, 2003.

Campbell McNamara (23) was shot dead in one of the most horrific gangland killings seen in Limerick. His arms and legs were bound and he was shot twice, once in the back of the head, and was stabbed 10 times in the feud-related killing.

Judge Carroll Moran adjourned sentencing to June 15th.

Former Brother pleads guilty

A former religious brother in Mountfort House, which used to be a retreat centre on the outskirts of Monaghan town, pleaded guilty at Monaghan Circuit Criminal court yesterday to four charges of indecent assault against two Monaghan sisters who cannot be named for legal reasons.

He will be sentenced next month.

Vincent Downey (81), formerly known as Br Bernard, faced eight charges of indecent assault before his guilty plea.

Man caught with ecstasy jailed

A drugs "mule" with a "well entrenched deep level" of cocaine addiction who needed money for his debts has been jailed for six years by Judge Martin Nolan at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Kenny Forde (26), a security operative, Liffey View Apartments, Leixlip, Co Kildare, was arrested by gardaí after a package containing 100,000 ecstasy tablets worth more than €1.5 million was transferred to his car.

Garage robber burned car wash

A man who set fire to a car wash in a petrol station and robbed the same shop 18 months later armed with a golf club has been sentenced to four years in prison by Judge Desmond Hogan.

Niall Healy (21), Woodview Estate, Lucan, Co Dublin, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to arson at the Maxol service station, Celbridge Road, on May 2nd, 2005, and its robbery on December 5th, 2006.

Healy caused more than €72,000 worth of damage to the newly installed machine after he and an accomplice set fire to rubbish surrounding it.

In December the following year, staff in Maxol pressed the panic alarm when they spotted Healy and another teenager coming across the forecourt carrying golf clubs.

The pair then covered their faces with scarves before Healy smashed the till with the club and they fled with €820.

Man drowned off Clare coast

The body of a swimmer was recovered from the sea at Spanish Point, Co Clare last night. The man, believed to be in his 50s, is understood to have been swimming alone at the west Clare resort and may have been in the water for up to half an hour before being discovered.

Two surfers brought the body ashore shortly after 6pm.

Efforts to revive the victim were unsuccessful.

Probation for threatening TD

A 14-year-old boy, who threatened Fine Gael TD and former Lord Mayor of Dublin Catherine Byrne that he would "petrol bomb her gaff" and "get her girls," has been released on probation for six months.

The Dublin South Central TD was subjected to a tirade of threats after she left a community development meeting.
