Man to be charged with Dublin killing
A young man will be charged in court this morning with the murder of a Dubliner who was shot dead in a gangland style killing last month, writes Conor Lally
The 23-year-old from Blanchardstown, Dublin, was arrested on the South Circular Road in the city at about 7pm yesterday in connection with the murder of Ian Tobin (25), Clonsilla, on Sunday, May 27th.
Mr Tobin was shot at a friend's house at Fortlawn Park, Clonsilla, west Dublin.
Green negotiator to take up key job
One of the Green Party's key negotiators in the coalition talks with Fianna Fáil is to take up the party's most senior position in the Government bureaucracy, writes Mark Hennessy.
Currently serving as the Green Party's general secretary, Dónall Geoghegan will now be tasked to ensure the implementation of the Greens' policies as a programme manager in the new Government.
Meanwhile, Councillor Billy Gogarty, the father of the Green Dublin Mid-West TD, Paul Gogarty, was elected yesterday as Mayor of South County Dublin.
Cllr Gogarty, who was co-opted following Cllr Fintan McCarthy's death, was unanimously elected, backed by Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael, the Progressive Democrats and Labour.
Passenger killed in Westmeath crash
A man was killed in a single vehicle crash in Co Westmeath yesterday morning. The man was a passenger in a car which crashed at Kinnegad on the N6 between Dublin and Galway. The driver of the vehicle was taken to Mullingar Hospital.
A 35-year-old man was also killed on Thursday night when the motorcycle he was riding hit a road-sign on the N32 in Coolock. He was taken to Beaumont Hospital but later died from his injuries.
A 57-year-old woman died on Thursday afternoon following a two-car crash in Co Galway. The incident happened just after midday at Oxgrove Bridge, Killimor, when the car in which she was travelling collided with another vehicle. She was taken to Portiunculla Hospital, but later died.
