Youth given bail in fatal stabbing case

A 17-year-old Ennis youth appeared in court yesterday in connection with the death of a 14-year old schoolboy in the town last weekend.

Last Saturday night, a settled Traveller boy, Michael Doherty, died from a stab wound sustained during an incident outside Supermac's fast food restaurant on O'Connell Street.

On Monday the youth was charged at Gort District Court with producing an article capable of inflicting serious injury in the course of a dispute or fight in Ennis on June 23rd.

The 17-year-old was yesterday further remanded on bail to appear again on September 28th next.

Remand on wife murder charge

The husband of a woman whose body was found floating in the river Suir two weeks after she went missing was further remanded in custody yesterday charged with her murder.

Appearing in Waterford District Court, John O'Brien (40) was charged a week ago with the murder of his wife, Meg Walsh (35), at a location unknown within the State between October 1st and 15th last.

He was remanded in custody to Cork Prison for another week, as the book of evidence was not available in court yesterday.

He will appear at the District Court in Waterford again next Friday at 10.30am, and it is understood he will make an application for bail.

Youth on threat to mother charges

A Dublin teenager arrested for threatening to have his mother and gardaí shot has been allowed home on bail.

The 17-year-old youth was charged last month in Dublin Children's Court with making threats to kill his mother and gardaí, and to criminally damage his home and with failing to attend a previous court case. He was remanded in custody.

An alcoholic who bit a garda while resisting arrest after breaching a barring order prohibiting her from entering her mother's home has had her sentence adjourned at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Sandra Pepper (38), of Kilclare Drive, Tallaght, pleaded guilty to assaulting Garda Padraig Mullarkey at her mother's home on December 2nd, 2006.

Judge Desmond Hogan adjourned sentencing pending a probation report.

Boy (16) drove stolen mini-bus

A 16-year-old boy, who was found guilty of driving a mini-bus that was stolen and later crashed, has been given a two-month sentence by Judge Hugh O'Donnell at the Dublin Children's Court.

The boy had been found guilty of unlawfully using the stolen mini-bus, on April 6th last, at Mill Road, Blanchardstown, Co Dublin.

Judge O'Donnell imposed a two-month sentence but suspended it on condition the teenager was of good behaviour for the next 12 months, saying he wanted to "have something hanging over him". The teenager was not accompanied in court by a parent. The judge was told the boy's mother was at work.

Attempt to tamper with summonses

A Balbriggan man is to be sentenced later at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for attempting to pervert the course of justice in relation to a drink-driving summons three years ago.

Derek Behan (47), of Moylaragh Views, pleaded guilty to two counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice by entering an agreement to interfere with summonses on dates unknown between December 2003 and July 2004.

Judge Desmond Hogan remanded him on continuing bail.
