Man charged over Limerick death
A 24-YEAR-OLD man was remanded in custody at the weekend after he appeared before a special sitting of Limerick District Court charged in connection with the death of a man in the city last week.
David Byrnes, from Copperhill, Ballintemple, Cork, is accused of assaulting Brendan McEvoy (50) on June 19th.
The body of Mr McEvoy, who was originally from Bagnalstown in Carlow, was found in a stairway at the Cherrydale Court apartment complex on the Dublin Road last Thursday morning, June 19th.
Byrnes did not apply for bail, and will appear again on Wednesday.
A file on Mr McEvoy's death will be prepared for the DPP, the court heard.
Mountjoy killing jury deadlocked
The jury in the trial of a Mountjoy prisoner accused of murdering another inmate has failed to reach a verdict. The foreman of the jury told Mr Justice Kevin O'Higgins that the jury was deadlocked.
Declan O'Reilly (28) of Parnell Road, Crumlin, had pleaded not guilty to murdering Derek Glennon on June 25, 2007.
A verdict of disagreement was recorded and the case was put into the next list to fix trial dates.
