Driver killed in single-vehicle crash in Louth
A man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Co Louth yesterday evening.
He was the driver of a car that went off the road at Commons Road, Dromiskin, at about 6.10pm. The road was sealed off last night awaiting Garda examination.
The man's body was removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, last night and a post mortem is due to take place this morning. Gardaí in Drogheda appealed for people who were in the area at the time to contact them.
Tributes paid to Anne de Winton
Tributes have been paid in Galway to Anne de Winton, granddaughter of Lady Gregory, one of Ireland's key literary figures of the early 20th century.
Ms de Winton (97) who died shortly before Christmas in England, was author of Me and Nu - a Childhood at Coole, which recalled memories of growing up on Lady Gregory's Coole estate in south Galway. She is to be buried in Exeter next week.
Fire was not a crime, says PSNI
A man being questioned by police about a fatal fire in Co Down was released without charge yesterday. The PSNI said it was no longer treating the fire in Banbridge as suspicious.
Wayne McKnight (28), died in the fire which started in a house at Larchwood Mews on Monday. A 27-year-old man rescued from the house was held for questioning but released when officers decided no crime had been committed. - (PA)
Beaten musician still in hospital
Traditional musician Noel Hill, attacked and beaten up in a Connemara pub over the Christmas holiday, is still recovering in hospital.
Mr Hill (50), suffered head and facial injuries in the attack at a pub near Leitir Mór on St Stephen's night. Mr Hill was taken to University Hospital Galway.
Help sought on missing youth
Gardaí have appealed for assistance in finding a Dublin teenager who has been missing since Saturday.
Anthony Shevlin (17) went missing from his home on Courtney Place, Ballybough, Dublin 3, at around 10.30am.
