Gardaí continue Howth search
Gardaí searching for missing Galway woman Bláthnaid Timothy are continuing to search in the Howth area of Co Dublin
“There is nothing to suggest it was foul play or that there was somebody else involved,” said a Garda source. Gardaí have established that Ms Timothy took a taxi to Howth on December 14th. Anybody with information is asked to call gardaí on 01-6669500.
Man charged with manslaughter
A 29-year-old Polish man has appeared in court charged with the manslaughter of another Polish man in Co Meath.
Mariusz Jarosz, with an address in Fitzherbert Wood, Navan, was remanded in custody with consent to bail when he appeared at Trim District Court yesterday.
Judge Patrick Clyne was told by Garda Insp Alf Martyn that he had charged Mr Jarosz with the alleged offence just before 11am yesterday.
He is accused of the unlawful killing of David Mazur (25) on January 6th at The Glebe, Cherryvalley, Rathmolyon, Enfield.
Martin Varley is new head of IHCA
The Irish Hospital Consultants Association announced yesterday that Martin Varley will replace outgoing secretary general Finbarr Fitzpatrick. Mr Varley joined the IHCA in 2007 as assistant secretary and will begin in his new position on April 1st. A former director of policy with the Irish Co-Operative Organisation Society, he has also worked for the Department of Finance and the EU Commission.
Man who just turned 80 dies in car crash
A dairy farmer who celebrated his 80th birthday during the Christmas holiday died in a car crash yesterday.
He was named locally as Paddy Joe McGoldrick from near Ballintogher, Co Sligo.
He was driving on the R287 at Slish Wood which links Dromahair and Sligo town on a frosty road shortly after 8am yesterday.
His wife Mary suffered minor injuries.
