Gardaí arrest man over 2008 Dublin murder
Gardaí investigating the murder of 35-year-old David Whyte in Palmerstown, Dublin in September 2008 yesterday arrested a 33-year-old man.
The man was arrested in Co Clare and taken to Ballyfermot Garda Station last night.
He is expected to appear at the Criminal Court in Dublin this morning and be charged in connection with the murder.
Ruling against Denny advert
Irish food company Denny has been told that its television advertisement which depicted GAA supporters moving around a bus condoned unsafe behaviour and must not be shown again.
The Advertising Standards Complaints Authority of Ireland made the ruling following a complaint from a member of the public. The advertisement was first aired in April 2010.
Aircraft diverts after engine failure
A Ryanair flight from Tenerife to Dublin on Monday suffered engine failure and was forced to make an emergency landing, the airline has confirmed.
The flight ran into problems about an hour after take-off when a passenger said he heard "an explosion sound".
The pilot told passengers an engine had failed and diverted to Faro, Portugal, where an emergency landing was made.
Passengers, who said there were fire engines and ambulances on the runway, remained on board for two hours before boarding an alternative aircraft.
Ryanair said it "sincerely regrets the delay and inconvenience caused".
Soldier recovers from climbing fall
A soldier is recovering in hospital after he was injured in a rock climbing incident in Co Clare yesterday.
The sergeant in his 40s, attached to the 1st Field Engineer Unit based at Collins Barracks in Cork, fell almost 20 feet while at Ballyreen, near Doolin in Co Clare.
The experienced climber and instructor was with a group of about 20 who were having a reassessment.
