Body of youth recovered from sea

The body of a 16-year-old boy was recovered from the sea off Co Waterford yesterday.

The boy, whose name has not yet been released, had been missing since Thursday morning, and was last seen in the Childers Road area of Dungarvan at around 1am on Thursday.

Foul play in Cork death ruled out

Gardaí in Cork have ruled out foul play after a woman's body was discovered in a house on the city's northside on Thursday afternoon.

Detectives had been treating the middle-aged woman's death as suspicious after her body was found at a house in Errigal Heights in the Glen.

Gardaí were alerted, and a full forensic examination was carried out at the scene. The woman's remains were removed to Cork University Hospital for a postmortem.

Man on placard sentence appeals

Dozens of local people in Cootehill, Co Cavan, gathered yesterday to see a young man parade outside a hotel with a placard saying "I must not urinate in public". However, the man had lodged an appeal and did not appear.

Kevin King (18), Drumnaveil, had been convicted earlier in the week at the local district court by Judge Seán MacBride of urinating in public in Bridge Street, Cootehill, on August 14th.

As part of his punishment he was ordered to stand outside the White Horse Hotel in Main Street, Cootehill, between noon and 2pm yesterday with the placard around his neck.

The defendant was also bound to the peace for two years in his own bond of €127 and was warned that if there was a breach he would serve one month's detention in St Patrick's Institution.

However, late on Thursday afternoon King lodged an appeal.

Cannabis worth €70,000 is seized

A file will be sent to the DPP following the seizure of cannabis resin with a street value of €70,000 in Cork city. Gardaí recovered the cannabis following a search of a house in the Dublin Hill area of the city.

A man in his mid-30s was arrested and taken to district headquarters in Mayfield Garda station but was released without charge pending a file being sent to the DPP.
