Man questioned about woman missing for more than a decade

A 41-year-old man was arrested yesterday and held for questioning at Ballina Garda station in Co Mayo about a woman who has been missing for more than 10 years. Sandra Collins (29) disappeared in the seaside village of Killala on December 4th, 2000. The man was arrested in the Ballina area and held under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. He was still in Garda custody last night. A 21-year-old woman arrested on Wednesday under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act has been released.

File on four Limerick deaths sent to DPP

The Garda file on the deaths of two young women and two children stabbed to death at a house in Co Limerick has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecution, a court heard yesterday. John Geary (31), Meadow Court, Newcastle West, Co Limerick, but originally from Milford, Co Cork, is charged with the murder of Sarah Hines (25), Amy Hines (five months), Reece Hines (3) and Sarah Brough (20) at Hazelgrove, Gortboy, Newcastle West, on November 15th last year.

He appeared before Newcastle West District Court on Tuesday where he was further remanded in custody by Judge Mary O’Halloran to April 12th.
