Man (30) dies in mobile home fire in Donegal
A man has died in a fire in a mobile home near Brinaleck, Bunbeg, Co Donegal, after spending the night at a party, writes Paddy Clancy.
Columba Doherty (30), who was single and from a large local family, worked as a labourer in the area.
Gardaí received a report shortly before 6.45am yesterday that the caravan was on fire. Insp Sylvie Henry said that the fire brigade was at the scene but the blaze had taken hold within minutes.
“They are little more than matchboxes,” he said. “He was at a party in the area and when he returned home, the fire took blaze.”
Mr Doherty’s body was taken to Letterkenny General Hospital. Gardaí are continuing investigations.
Fatal fall from scaffolding
A teenager lost his life over the weekend when he fell from scaffolding while working on outhouses at the family farm on the outskirts of Bantry, Co Cork, writes Olivia Kelleher.
Martin Buckley (19) fell to his death on Saturday afternoon. All efforts to revive him failed and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
This is the second farm fatality in Ireland so far this year.
A father of four was killed while working with a tractor near Daingean, Co Offaly, on January 25th. Seán Mulligan (57) was married with four sons.
