Donegal hosts international gathering of McGinley clan
People called McGinley gather in Co Donegal today for the first International McGinley Clan Gathering. Among the well-known McGinleys organisers invited are golfer Paul McGinley, who is competing in the Irish Open in Killarney, and actor Sean McGinley. Hollywood film director Robert McGinley will show his film Jimmy Zip.
The name McGinley comes originally from the Donegal village of Dunfanaghy and translated the name roughly means the sons of the brave. Organisers said: “It means the son of fair valour or bravery. They were always there in the thick of the battle.”
Drowsy drivers to face a little pillow talk
Pillows bearing the message “Are You Tired? Take a break” are to be given to drivers in Co Mayo in a bid to reduce roadtraffic incidents over the bank holiday weekend. The scheme - a joint venture between the Garda, Mayo County Council and local enterprise, the Northern Feathers factory outlet, Westport - is providing pillows which will be handed out by volunteers at various Garda checkpoints throughout Co Mayo.
