Wexford pensioner dies in house fire
AN ELDERLY woman died at her home in Co Wexford yesterday morning as smoke engulfed the building.
Kathleen North, described as being in her 70s, lived in a semi-detached house on William St, New Ross.
It is believed the woman, who had been in frail health, died from smoke inhalation.
The local fire brigade and gardaí were alerted to the fire by a neighbour.
Gardaí have ruled out any suspicious circumstances, describing it as an unfortunate accident.
Members of the Garda and fire brigade forced their way into the house and found the woman in her bedroom. Her body was removed to Waterford Regional Hospital, where a postmortem is to be carried out.
Man arrested after drugs seizure
A 22-YEAR-old man has been detained by gardaí following the seizure of drugs with a street value of €460,000.
The man was arrested following a raid on a house in Cleggan Park, Ballyfermot on Thursday evening.
The raid was part of an ongoing investigation into drugs activities in west Dublin. During the search 2.5 kilos of cocaine, a kilo of heroin and 14 ounces of crack cocaine were seized. Also seized was drug paraphernalia including a weighing scales.
The man is being held at Ballyfermot Garda station.
File to go to DPP over cathedral raid
THREE people detained for questioning in connection with up to €250,000 worth of damage to the historic Christ Church Cathedral in Waterford city have been released without charge.
Significant damage was caused to the ceiling of the 11th century building over the historic Thomas Elliott Organ, and a small amount of cash stolen on July 27th.
Two men, aged 25 and 29 and a 22-year-old woman, were arrested on Thursday.
Gardaí said a file would be sent to the DPP at a future date.

A DERRY collector's copy of Mein Kampf, signed by author Adolf Hitler, has fetched a staggering £21,000 (€24,300).

Gardaí seek man's next of kin
GARDAÍ in Dublin are seeking help from the public in locating the next of kin of a man who lived in hostels in north Dublin for more than 20 years.
Michael Jordan, who sometimes went by the name Malcom, died on July 7th last. It is believed that Mr Jordan may have relatives in Clonsilla. He is described as having been a heavy set man with grey hair, pale skin and approximately 5 8 in height.
