Knock airport co-founder dies
One of the founders of Ireland West Airport Knock, Cathal Duffy, has died after a lengthy illness. He was in his late 70s.
A friend of former taoiseach Charles Haughey, Mr Duffy served on the airport board for 21 years and acted as chairman from 1992 to 2002.
The owner of a garage business in Castlebar, Co Mayo, he is survived by his wife Philomena and three sons and three daughters.
He will be laid to rest in Aughagower Cemetery, near Westport, tomorrow.
Legal firm partner restricted by order
Two Cork solicitors last night obtained an interim High Court order against a third partner in their firm, restraining her from carrying out any transactions as a member of the partnership.
Saundra McNally and Bernice Campbell sought the order against Deirdre Foley with whom they have been in partnership for years under the name Foley, McNally Goldberg at Popes Quay in Cork city. Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy granted the interim order restraining her from any dealings in the name of the partnership.
Donegal fisherman lost off Scotland
The family of a young Donegal fisherman lost at sea in Scotland have described their devastation at losing “the life and soul” of their home, writes Linda McGrory.
Mark Duffy (22), from Greencastle, went overboard last Friday while working on board the crab-fishing vessel Noronya off the Orkney Islands.
It is understood the fisherman’s colleagues saw him being pulled overboard after getting caught in fishing ropes.
Woman arrested over baby’s death
A woman has been arrested in relation to the death of a baby aged seven weeks in a Sligo housing estate on August 18th.
She was held last night at Sligo Garda station. Five more people, believed to be related, were taken to Manorhamilton Garda station in Co Leitrim.
Baby Shkira Farrell- Scanlon was admitted to hospital having been found with head injuries on the floor of her parents’ bedroom in the Cranmore estate.
