'Boil water' alert for 300 in east Galway
Galway has recorded another incidence of drinking water contamination, affecting residents in the east of the county.
About 300 people in 80 homes in the Gurteen area have been advised to boil all water for human consumption, including food preparation.
Samples taken from the group scheme in the Ballinlass/Carrownagopple/ Gurteen area have tested positive for e-coli. It is believed that a chlorine pump may be the cause of the problem. Several areas of Galway county still have boil water notices in relation to water from public supplies and group schemes.
Fourth case of swine flu in North
The fourth case of H1N1 or swine flu in Northern Ireland has been confirmed in Northern Ireland.
The man diagnosed with the illness is recovering at home and is being treated with anti-virals. He is said to be recently returned from Florida in the US.
Man (60) dies in Co Leitrim crash
A man in his 60s was killed when the car he was driving left the road and crashed into a field in Co Leitrim.
He was the only occupant of the car, which was discovered at Killarague, Dromahair, by a man walking at 12.30pm yesterday.
400 take on Four Peaks challenge
Heavy rain on Saturday failed to deter about 400 walkers who participated in the 10th annual Four Peaks Challenge organised by Focus Ireland.
The charity said the hikers raised more than €400,000 towards homeless services by climbing the highest mountain in each province.
