Blind man admits killing father of three

A Dublin man has pleaded guilty to killing a father of three in Kilmainham last year. Michael Byrne (36), Clonard Rd, Crumlin pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to the manslaughter of Dennis Brennan (60) at Bowbridge Court, Kilmainham, last July.

Byrne, who is blind, was wearing dark glasses and carrying a cane. He was remanded on bail until sentencing on July 27th.

Man charged over Lucan armed raid

Keith Murtagh (26), Lower Sheriff Street, Dublin, appeared in court yesterday on charges relating to an attempted raid on a cash-in-transit van in Lucan on May 15th last. He was remanded in custody to next Friday.

Crumlin man denies murder

A 20-year-old Crumlin man accused of attempted murder will go on trial at the Central Criminal Court this morning.

Charlie Darcy, of Crumlin Park, Crumlin, has pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder of Patrick Collins in Drimnagh on August 31st last year.

Woman released pending report

A 42-year-old woman arrested early yesterday on suspicion of perverting the course of justice in connection with last month’s sectarian murder of Kevin McDaid in Coleraine, Co Derry, was released yesterday evening pending the outcome of a report to the Public Prosecution Service. A 20-year-old man who was also arrested yesterday in connection with the attack remained in custody last night.

Vandals hit Dart services in Dublin

All north Dublin city Dart services were suspended from 9pm last night when vandals dropped a bicycle on the overhead lines at Killester station.

It is not known if the damage will be repaired in time for today’s early commuters. Dart services were running as normal southwards from Connolly Station last night.
