A round-up of today's other stories in brief.
€500,000 worth of heroin seized
Gardaí in Limerick have made one of the biggest heroin seizures in the city, with almost €500,000 worth of the drug being found in a house on the north side of the city.
Members of the Garda divisional drugs unit searched a house in Moyross at midday yesterday and seized just more than 2kg of heroin, worth an estimated €500,00.
A small amount of cocaine, worth about €6,000, was also discovered in the search.
A 36-year-old man was arrested and taken to Henry Street Garda station where he was being questioned last night under section 2 of the Drugs Trafficking Legislation.
A senior Garda spokesman described the haul as "very significant".
It brings to more than €1 million the value of drugs seized by gardaí in Limerick so far this year.
Border towns want CCTV aid
Two Border towns in the Republic are making a plea to the Government for special funding to facilitate the provision of CCTV in a bid to reduce public order incidents and target late-night street violence.
Garda reinforcements were required to cope with a number of recent incidents in Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, during which some of those involved sustained serious injury and the town council has decided to press for the installation of street cameras.
The mayor of Castleblayney, Jackie Crowe, has confirmed that discussions are ongoing with the Garda on the matter.
A similar demand for government aid is being made for a CCTV system in the neighbouring town of Ballybay, where local residents have also recently complained about incidents of public disorder and vandalism.
A spokesperson for Ballybay Town Council said yesterday that funding in the region of between €150,000 and €200,000 is required for the scheme.
Trade leaders and local organisations are supporting a call by Ballybay Town Council for the necessary funding from the Department of Justice, Equality, and Law Reform for grant aid for the CCTV system.

Guest speakers include Roger Cole of the Peace and Neutrality Alliance, Pádraig MacLoughlin of Sinn Féin; Kathy Sinnott MEP and Daithí Mac An Mháistir of Éirigí.
