Guilty plea in attempted murder case

A Dublin man has pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court to attempted murder.

Jonathan Dunne (21), Windmill Road, Crumlin, pleaded guilty yesterday to the attempted murder of Ian Kenny (22), Monasterboice Road, Crumlin, at Lakelands Road, Stillorgan, on July 4th, 2007. He also pleaded guilty to possession of firearms with intent to endanger life.

Mr Justice Paul Carney remanded Dunne in custody until May 26th for sentencing.

Murder trial starts today

The trial of a Dublin man accused of murdering a man in Arklow, Co Wicklow, when the car he was in allegedly swerved towards the victim, killing him, begins in the Central Criminal Court in Dublin today. Anthony O'Reilly, (22) Ballyfermot, denies the murder of Daniel McDonald (21) on Main Street, Arklow, in February 2007.

Mr O'Reilly is also charged with intentionally or recklessly grabbing the steering wheel of the car from the driver, causing the car to swerve, and with driving a car in such a manner to cause danger to the public and thereby causing the death of Mr McDonald.

Woman on trial for 2006 murder

The Central Criminal Court is sitting in Galway city today for the second time since the foundation of the State as the trial of a woman charged with murder two years ago gets under way before Mr Justice Paul Carney.

Una Black (25), Bishop O'Donnell Road, Galway, is charged with the murder of John Malone in December 2006. Mr Malone (42) was found in a doorway of a block of flats on December 3rd, 2006. He had been stabbed.

Man found guilty of assault

A man has been convicted by a jury of assaulting his partner who claimed that he tried to hang her in their Dublin city centre apartment to make it look like suicide.

Lech Szymczk (49), from Poland, was found guilty by the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court jury of assaulting her in August 2006. The jury also found Szymczk guilty of causing her serious harm and attempting to strangle her.

Six years for oral rape

A man has been jailed by Mr Justice Paul Carney for six years for orally raping a woman in a Dublin city laneway last year. Tomasz Olejinik (23), from Poland, of Clonliffe Road, Ballybough, Dublin, told gardaí he had no recollection because he was heavily intoxicated and had taken cocaine.
