Second bomb attack in Indonesia
JAKARTA - A small bomb exploded near Timika in Indonesia's eastern province of Papua on last night, but no casualties were reported.
The explosion took place at 10.30pm local time near a small airport.
The police said the bomb was similar to two that exploded on Friday in Papua near a massive mine operated by the Indonesian unit of the US mining firm Freeport McMoRan Copper Gold Inc. No casualties were reported from Friday's blasts and police are still investigating the incident. - (Reuters)
Officer fired over bin Laden outfit
LONDON - A senior British police officer who dressed up as Osama bin Laden to attend a village fair has been dismissed from his job helping to build Afghanistan's security forces.
Chief Supt Colin Terry of the Devon and Cornwall police dressed up as the terrorist, complete with turban, Arab robes and a bin Laden face mask, to attend the local charity fete.
He was spotted by a photographer and reported to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
Now he has also been dismissed by the UK foreign office, which oversaw his policing contract in Afghanistan. - (Reuters)
Nigeria militants declare 'oil war'
ABUJA - Nigeria's most prominent militant group has declared an "oil war" in the Niger Delta after two days of gun battles with security forces in the world's eighth largest oil exporter.
The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (Mend), responsible for attacks that have cut a fifth of the Opec member's oil output, repeated its warning for all oil workers to evacuate the delta immediately and expanded its threat to oil vessels. - (Reuters)
