Man cleared of rape and sexual assault
A Somalian national (29) has been acquitted by a jury at the Central Criminal Court of raping a Zimbabwean woman in a Kerry town almost two years ago. He had denied raping and sexually assaulting the woman in her home on August 29th, 2006.
The jury of six men and six women deliberated for more than four hours before returning the not-guilty verdicts.
Suspect held after NI murder
A man (28) is being questioned by the PSNI following the murder of a man in south Belfast. Shane Cunningham (39), a stone mason, was found murdered at an end-of-terrace house in the Four Winds area of the city yesterday morning.
Police officers sealed off the cul-de-sac where the body was found and began a forensic examination.
The suspect was arrested a few hours later.
It is not known how Mr Cunningham died, but it is understood he may have been stabbed.
Man charged in 4m heroin find
A man has appeared in court to face charges in relation to the discovery of heroin valued at €4 million in Dublin on Monday night.
Some 20kg of the drug was found in a car when it was stopped on the Navan Road just after it had left the M50.
Daniel Davis (21), Sandyhill Way, Ballymun, was charged at Dublin District Court with unlawful possession of drugs and possession with intent to sell or supply. He was remanded in custody and will appear at Cloverhill District Court on July 15th.
The drugs were found in a planned operation by members of the Garda National Drugs Unit.
Gardaí investigate death of man (60)
Gardaí are investigating the circumstances of the death a man (60) whose body was found in Dublin yesterday morning.
The body of the man was discovered in an apartment in Bowbridge, Kilmainham, Dublin 8.
The State Pathologist and a Garda technical team examined the scene.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area between last Saturday and yesterday morning to contact them at 01-6669750 or 1800-666111.
Three die on North's roads
Three people died in two road crashes in Northern Ireland yesterday evening.
Two men died and several people were injured in a collision involving two cars and a bus close to the village of Ballynure between Belfast and Larne just before 6pm.
The men who died were in the same car and the driver of the other car was injured.
The bus was carrying 67 people and four passengers and the driver were injured.
All the injured were taken to Antrim hospital.
A man died in a single-vehicle collision on Newry Road, Kilkeel, Co Down, at 8.30pm. Another occupant of the car was injured.
Motorcyclist killed in Dublin
A motorcyclist was killed in a single-vehicle collision in Dublin yesterday evening.
The man, who was in his 30s, crashed into a roundabout in the Grangecastle road area of Clondalkin at 6.30pm and died instantly.
Irish woman drowns in US
An Irish woman (32) died in the United States last weekend in a drowning incident in New Hampshire.
It is understood that Anita O'Donnell, originally from Larkin's Cross on the outskirts of Limerick city, died in hospital a short time after she was rescued from a lake in Albany.
Local media reports said Ms Larkin had been camping with a friends at a campsite near the lake.
