Two die in Monaghan collision and motorcyclist killed in Offaly

Three people were killed in separate road crashes in Monaghan and Offaly yesterday.

Two elderly men died after a three-vehicle collision near Broomfield, Co Monaghan.

The driver of one van, a man in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the second van died later from his injuries at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

A 21-year-old motorcyclist died in Co Offaly. He was killed when his motorbike went out of control on the Dublin Road, Edenderry, at 1.30am.

The man who died in a road crash in Co Meath on Wednesday was yesterday named as John Keoghan (46), of Silverlawns, Navan.

To face court over €1.4m drug seizure

A 21-YEAR-old man is due to appear in Kilmainham District Court this morning charged in relation to the discovery of 20kg of cocaine worth €1.4 million in an apartment in Co Kildare.

The man, from Clondalkin, Co Dublin, was arrested after officers from the Garda National Drugs Unit raided an apartment in Celbridge yesterday.

As well as seizing the cocaine, gardaí said they uncovered paraphernalia relating to the mixing and processing of the drug, including scales, blenders, and a vacuum packing machine.

Two investigations into death of garda

GARDAÍ AND the Garda Ombudsman Commission have launched separate investigations into the death of a garda during a shooting incident at a garda station yesterday, writes Conor Lally.

The garda died of a gun shot wound to the head at Enniscorthy garda station, Co Wexford, just before 4.30pm. Gardaí are satisfied there was nobody else involved in the incident. The man, who is in his 40s, had a number of children. He was based at the Garda station in Ferns, but often used the Enniscorthy station.
