Girl (5) critical after Cork car crash

A five-year-old girl was in a critical condition in hospital last night following a car crash in north Cork yesterday

She was in a car driven by her mother which collided with another car near Newmarket at about 5.30pm. The girl's sibling and her mother were treated for non life-threatening injuries as was the female driver of the other car.

A Wicklow man died from injuries he received in a collision at Roundwood on Sunday night. Georgie Johnson (41), Roundwood, was crossing the road when he was struck by a car. He had played hurling for his Wicklow town club, St Patrick's, and for the county.

The 35-year-old driver of the car involved in the collision was arrested for suspected drink driving. He was later charged and released, and will appear in court on November 20th.

Abuse case jury sent to hotel

The jury in the trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court of a Clare man charged with sexually abusing two of his daughters has been sent to a hotel overnight.

The 36-year-old accused has pleaded not guilty to 11 counts of sexual assault on two of his daughters on dates between September 2001 and December 2004 in a Co Offaly townland.

East Link tolls to increase

Tolls for cars using the East Link Bridge in Dublin are to rise from €1.55 to €1.65 from January Ist next year. National Toll Roads is increasing charges for all classes of vehicles, with small vans and buses seeing the largest increase, up from €2.30 to €2.50.
