More than 300 people have died on Irish roads so far this year, according to new figures released today by the National Safety Council.
These show that 307 people (an increase of 11) have died this year on Ireland's roads as compared to 296 this time last year.
Of the 307 deaths attributed to the roads so far this year; drivers accounted for 43 per cent (132), passengers accounted for 23 per cent (72), motorcyclists accounted for 15 per cent (46), pedestrians accounted for 13.7 per cent (42) pedal cyclists for 2.9 per cent (9) and motorcycle pillion passengers accounted for 1 per cent (3).
