Decisions to downgrade four Dublin five-star hotels are still in the appeals process and being reviewed by an independent panel.

The four hotels, the Shelbourne on St Stephen's Green, Jury's in Ballsbridge, the Conrad on Earlsfort Terrace and the Radisson on Stillorgan Road are appealing the decision made in July to reclassify them to four-star.

The reclassification was made by Excellence in Tourism Ltd, the agency charged with classifying tourist accommodation by Fáilte Ireland and the Irish Hotels' Federation (IHF).

An independent appeals panel was set up early this month and comprises nominees from both Fáilte Ireland and the IHF with an independent chairperson. It is reviewing the hotels' appeals which were lodged immediately.

A hotels industry source said yesterday: "The appeals are going through due process. There is no indication as yet as to when a decision might be made."

Meanwhile, a hotel guide published in Britain has dropped three Irish hotels from its 2005 edition.
