India secured their first ever test win on Pakistani soil today, beating the hosts by an innings and 52 runs on the fifth morning of the first test.
The Indians had not won any of their previous 20 tests in Pakistan, losing five and drawing 15.
Vice captain Yousuf Youhana struck a fighting 112 but left-arm paceman Irfan Pathan had him mis-hit a pull shot to stand-in captain Rahul Dravid at mid-wicket as Pakistan, 207 for nine overnight, were bowled out for 216.
Anil Kumble was India's best bowler of the second innings, grabbing six for 72 after Pathan's career-best four for 100 in the first had allowed India to enforce the follow-on.
The visitors had amassed 675 for five when they batted, Virender scoring a record 309 and Sachin Tendulkar 194 not out.
It was only India's second innings victory over Pakistan. The other was the inaugural test between the two teams in New Delhi in 1952.
The second test starts in Lahore on April 5th and the third in Rawalpindi on April 13th.
