Cricket:Chris Tremlett's three wickets could not prevent India completing an emphatic seven-wicket victory over England in the second Test at Trent Bridge.

Resuming on the final morning needing 73 to win, India progressed with little alarm although Hampshire seamer Tremlett did his future prospects no harm by removing Wasim Jaffer, Dinesh Karthik and Sachin Tendulkar.

Brought into the attack in eighth over of the morning, Tremlett immediately caused problems with his extra bounce and left England wondering what might have been had they not collapsed and lost seven for 68 yesterday.

The bad-tempered Test was marred by England's winding up India's tail-enders by placing jelly beans on the pitch and seamer Shanthakumaran Sreesanth being fined 50 per cent of his match fee for shoulder-barging Michael Vaughan.

Today's play was placid in comparison.

It took India's openers just two overs to get into their stride with Karthik, who complained about sledging at Lord's, pushing Jimmy Anderson off the back foot for the first boundary of the day.

Jaffer followed suit by clipping Ryan Sidebottom off his legs for his first boundary in the next over while Karthik showed his liking for playing off the back foot by cutting Anderson for another four.

But after adding 37 to their overnight total, India's smooth progress was interrupted when Jaffer decided to take on a short ball from Tremlett and mistimed the stroke, the ball looping high in the air to Kevin Pietersen at gully.

Just four overs later Tremlett claimed a second victim with a superb delivery to remove the impressive Karthik, the ball lifting late and clipping the glove before being taken above his head by wicketkeeper Matt Prior.

Those two wickets brought captain Rahul Dravid and Tendulkar to the crease with the healthy final day crowd expecting them to administer the final rites.

Tremlett, though, ran in to claim his third wicket for three runs in 27 balls when he dug the ball in short to Tendulkar, who fended it straight to Alastair Cook at short leg.

But only two overs later India sealed their victory when an attempted yorker by Tremlett was missed by new batsman Sourav Ganguly and flew for four byes.

It was only India's fifth-ever Test victory on English soil and sets up a thrilling final match at The Oval.
