Indian police are investigating reports that Hindu nationalists raided a warehouse holding aid for the victims of the Gujarat earthquake and stole four truck-loads of relief supplies.

Local media reports said a group of 30 men broke into a warehouse in the town of Bhuj and loaded up four trucks with tents and other items before escaping.

There has been a steady stream of reports alleging that Hindu fundamentalist groups such as the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), which have played a key role in the relief effort, have been channeling aid only to their supporters.

Yesterday hundreds of angry demonstrators, mainly Muslim, besieged the central administrative office in Bhuj to demanded tents be handed out to Muslims and lower-caste Hindus.
