The Indian summer of recent days is expected to last for at least another week, according to Met Éireann.

The weather is undergoing its most settled spell this year, the forecasters say.

Temperatures have been higher than normal for September and Met Éireann expects today will be the warmest day of this settled period with temperatures forecast to reach up to 24 degrees along the west coast.

Met Éireann forecaster Mr Jim O'Brien, said yesterday it looked like high pressure - the cause of the warm spell - would dominate our weather for the next week.

"Winds will be light to moderate. Days will be warm and today will probably be the warmest of this spell. Then winds will move a bit more northerly by tomorrow and Monday so it will be slightly cooler but temperatures will still be above average for September and could still reach 18 degrees Celsius," he said.

Maximum temperatures for this time of year would usually be around 16 degrees, he added.

He said it was a bit harder to predict how much sunshine should be expected.

"There will be cloud around at times and some mist and fog in the mornings. Temperatures will depend on how much sunshine gets through".
