Industrial turnover in transportable goods industries decreased by one per cent in May 2002 when compared with the same month in 2001, according to the Central Statistics Office.
On a three month basis, which gives a more stable indication of recent underlying trends, the unadjusted figures for March to May 2002, when compared with the same three month period a year earlier, show an overall increase of one per cent in transportable goods industries.
Other key figures show:
- Increases of 17.6 per cent and 2.6 per cent were recorded for intermediate products and consumer goods respectively.
- A decrease of 20.1 per cent was recorded for capital goods.
- The sharpest increase was in "reproduction of recorded media", where turnover rose by 45.8 per cent in the period.
- The sharpest decrease was in "radio, television and communications equipment and apparatus", where turnover fell by 38.1 per cent in the period.
