The seasonally adjusted volume of industrial production rose by 7.1 per cent in the final quarter of 2003, according to figures released today by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
The CSO said industrial production in December was 19.8 per cent higher than in the corresponding period in 2002.
The "Modern" sector, comprising a number of high-technology and chemical sectors, showed an annual increase in production for of 25.6 per cent in December, whereas an increase of 3.3 per cent was recorded in the more traditional industries.
Industrial turnover for manufacturing industries was up 7.7 per cent in the three month
period from October to December last year when compared with the preceding three
month period.
Turnover in December was 4.7 per cent higher than in December 2002.
