The Department of the Environment and Local Government has refused to provide information on its discussions with the National Roads Authority in relation to Dublin's proposed Eastern Bypass, requested under the Freedom of Information Act, it has been claimed.

The environmental campaign group Earthwatch accused the Department of concealing information on its contacts with the authority after Earthwatch wrote seeking the information under the Act.

Earthwatch spokesman Mr Chris Gambatese said the Department turned down its request under Section 20 of the Act, which means it relates to matters which will come before a public body and its dissemination now would be contrary to public interest.
