A woman in her 20s was rescued from Carrauntoohil, in the MacGillycuddy's Reeks, Co Kerry, last night.
The woman, believed to be Irish, had reached the summit but sustained injuries on her way down the mountain at around 2,500 feet.
The Shannon-based Sikorsky rescue helicopter tried to reach her but was driven back by wind and foggy conditions.
Twenty members of Kerry Mountain Rescue reached the woman on the mountain last night and stretchered her down to where an ambulance could reach her.
The woman fell on the Devil's Ladder, a commonly used route to the summit ridge.
Her injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
In recent years the Devil's Ladder has disintegrated because of the increase in popularity in hillwalking, a report to Kerry County Council warned earlier this month.
