Darren Clarke has pulled out of this week's Irish PGA championship at Westport with a knee injury but will play at next month's Benson and Hedges International Open, his manager said today.
"It's precautionary. Basically what's happened is that he had a twinge in his knee while he was at Augusta and it has since been revealed as an inflammation of the ligament," said manager Andrew Chandler.
"It was heavy going for him at the Masters and then he played 36 holes a day at Druids Glen last week."
Clarke helped Britain and Ireland beat Continental Europe in the Seve Trophy at Druids Glen last weekend but wore a knee support throughout the competition.
"The physio said, if he wasn't careful, he could affect the rest of his season," said Chandler.
The Benson and Hedges International Open takes place at The Belfry from May 9th to 12th.
