A 60-YEAR-OLD man suffered stab wounds when three people who called to his house on Halloween night attacked him.
The assault took place at a house in White Cross Gardens in Limerick’s Moyross housing estate shortly before 11pm on Sunday.
The injured man, who gardaí described as an “innocent victim”, suffered injuries to his face and underarm area.
A car pulled up outside his house at about 10.45pm, and the assailants called to the door, where a scuffle ensued.
It is understood the attackers were looking for another person who the victim knows and who has an outstanding debt with members of the McCarthy-Dundon gang.
A woman and two men aged in their 20s were arrested shortly after the incident in the Ballinacurra Weston area of Limerick city.
All three were being questioned at Garda stations in Limerick last night under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
The victim of the stabbing was taken to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and discharged.
“He was an innocent victim and we believe they were looking for somebody else,” said a Garda source.
A Garda spokesman described the incident as serious, and said that a full investigation was under way.
The spokesman said he was not aware of any 60th birthday celebrations taking place in the house at the time of the stabbing, as was suggested by some reports yesterday.
