THE INQUEST into the double murder of two cousins who were shot outside a Tesco outlet in Dublin last November has been adjourned to allow gardaí more time to investigate.

Glen Murphy (19), O’Devaney Gardens, North Circular Road, Dublin 7, and Mark Noonan (23), Drumalee, North Circular Road, were shot dead outside the service station at the Clearwater shopping centre in Finglas on November 23rd, 2010.

The two men had been at a friend’s house on Rathbourne Drive in Finglas earlier that evening and had gone to the petrol station for cigarettes, arriving just after 11.40pm.

They parked their car, a dark grey Toyota Avensis, beside the shop in the service station before walking towards the hatch to buy cigarettes.

A BMW 5-series car pulled alongside the men and two gunmen opened fire on the cousins.

Requesting an adjournment of the inquest yesterday, Insp Colm Fox from Blanchardstown Garda station said the investigation into the murders “was very much alive”. He was granted a six-month adjournment of the hearing.

A postmortem carried out by Deputy State Pathologist Michael Curtis found the two men had died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Extending his sympathy to the families, Dublin city coroner Dr Brian Farrell said the pathologist was satisfied the “two men died instantly in the shooting”.

He said he could not make any further comment while the Garda investigation was ongoing, and adjourned the inquest until Monday September 19th.
